Let's Move! Cafeteria Cook-off
Today, Rachael Ray joined First Lady Michelle Obama and 400 elementary school students in Clinton, Mississippi to celebrate the new, healthier school meals being served in cafeterias across the country. Two teams -- cafeteria chef Fannie and celebrity chef Sunny Anderson versus cafeteria chef Wendy and celebrity Ryan Scott -- competed in a Let's Move! Cafeteria Cook-off to make the most delicious, healthy school lunch.
A New Salad Bar for Falk Elementary School!
Today, Falk Elementary School in Madison, WI, opened a new salad bar in its school cafeteria with the assistance of Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, an initiative of the Food Family Farming Foundation, National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance, United Fresh Produce Association Foundation, and Whole Foods Market. We are so excited to hear about one more school taking the step of offering a salad bar as part of its school lunch program.

Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day! Each year, this observance provides us with a tremendous opportunity to help get more girls in the game, and make a significant investment in the future of our nation. I am proud to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition and sound the alarm about the importance of ensuring equitable physical activity opportunities for all Americans.
Throughout my life, I have been transformed and inspired by sports. Since the first time I tumbled into a gymnasium at six years old to becoming an Olympic gold medalist, I was motivated and excited by the opportunities presented to me as an athlete and a coach. I owe my participation and success in gymnastics (and so much more) to the passage of Title IX of the Education Act of 1972, which has transformed the lives of millions of girls by granting them greater access to participate in sports.

An Outdoor Learning Center for Kids
Sometimes a passionate community is all it takes to make change really happen. Just take a look at how far Fireside Elementary School in Louisville, Colorado has come since 2007. Like other schools around the country, Fireside Elementary School wanted to teach kids about healthy eating. Despite being under tight financial means, the school was able to improve school meals, thanks to the Boulder Valley’s School Food Project, which rallied members within the community around this important cause to raise money for all schools within the Boulder district, including Fireside Elementary. A group of parents also volunteered their time to help build a school garden.

The connection between a city and its schools was the prime motivating factor that pushed me to run for Mayor in 2008. Girl Scout Earns Highest Achievement, Inspired by Let's Move!
Everywhere I turned, I saw the great problem of childhood obesity. Things had changed over the short time from my childhood. Today's children were not getting the physical activity or food they needed. I was going to change that with the use of my Girl Scouts Gold Award. I was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let's Move! initiative and by my younger cousin DJ, who is obese. I have a great love of sports and knew there had to be something to tie healthy living together with sports. Then the idea was born.
