Memphis Kicks Off Let’s Move! With their new SAFE Zones

Last month, the City of Memphis, Tennessee officially kicked off their Let’s Move! Program. Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. along with over 170 children showed their support for the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative during a celebration and announcement event at the Hickory Hill Community Center. The event kicked off with Beyonce’s Let’s Move! flash workout led by scholars from Power Center Academy, which served as a great backdrop for Mayor Wharton’s unveiling of the city’s first SAFE Zone.

Ideas for Your Community

Let’s Move! is making great strides in our efforts to end childhood obesity, but we cannot reverse the current obesity trends without the the help of your communities and community leaders. To ensure a country where happy, healthy, lifestyles are the norm, community leaders have some of the biggest roles to play.

Deep in the heart of Menominee country, Chaske Spencer addressed over 350 Native American children and community members in Keshena, Wisconsin on May 25, 2011 during the launch of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! in Indian Country initiative to combat childhood obesity. Walk friendly communities offer residents a gas-saving, healthy alternative

In this time of high gas prices, it’s important that we give Americans options for getting where they need to go. One way to do that is by fostering livable communities where people can choose to leave their cars behind and safely walk where they need to go.

Let's Move! Unites Federal Employees in San Francisco

The Let’s Move! movement has taken many shapes, sizes and forms. We’ve seen Mayors from towns and cities as far east as Phoenix and as far west as Kauai pledge their support to ending childhood obesity in the region. But there is also something going on a little closer to home. The places we work are our homes away from home. The Offices of the Regional Director and Regional Health Administrator thought no better place to promote the work we are actively engaged in than the place we live and work at everyday, the San Francisco Federal Building.
