The Timothy Project

Judah House of Praise Church of the Living God is a faith based institution located in the rural area of Blue Mountain, MS, in the Tippah County School District. The Timothy Project served 25 African American students in grades 7-12 and one dropout. Using technology, the project focused on providing service-learning activities that addressed obesity, nutrition, leadership skills, and anti-social behavior.

Day of Dignity with Islamic Relief USA

In the spirit of Ramadan, Islamic relief hosts Day of Dignity, where communities around the country come together to provide services to individuals in need and promote their well-being, including that of the homeless. Ramadan is the holiest month on the Islamic calendar. It is a month of giving, compassion, and charity.

Faith and Food Equal Fun and Nutritious Eating In Oregon

Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) was founded in 1994 with a mission to promote community food security among faith communities. Aided by a USDA Community Food Projects Grant, EMO started the Interfaith Food and Farms Partnership (IFFP). Among many partnerships, IFFP is now collaborating with Hacienda Community Development Corporation to provide cooking classes for families and middle school students as a part of Expresiones - an after-school and summer enrichment program.

The task force is working right now on an action plan for solving the problem of childhood obesity in a generation. Let's Move! Town Hall with First Lady Michelle Obama

Student reporters and young people from schools across the country joined First Lady Michelle Obama in the State Dining Room of the White House for a Let's Move! Town Hall hosted by C-SPAN's Susan Swain. Let's Move! is an initiative started by the First Lady to help raise a healthier generation of kids and solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation.

Turning the Tide on Obesity

As a pediatrician, my number one goal is to keep children healthy. Yet, over the 30 years I've been in practice, there has been a distressing increase in the number of children and adolescents who are overweight and obese. Today, most physicians are dealing with overweight and obesity in about 30 percent of the children we treat. These staggering numbers have alarmed the pediatric community, and they should spur us as a nation into action.

Since last Tuesday, we’ve received over 800 comments giving us feedback on how the Childhood Obesity Task Force should write its action plan to end the problem of childhood obesity in this country in a generation. Keep them coming! The deadline for submitting comments is this Friday, March 26.
