What You Missed: Cooking with Sam Kass in the White House Kitchen

Ed. Note: This is a cross post from the blog of You can find the original post here. Yesterday, Executive Director of Let’s Move! and White House Senior Advisor for Nutrition Policy Sam Kass joined DC Public Schools’ student Maurice Morris, and thousands of classrooms via livestream from around the country for a special inside look into the White House kitchen.

The live cooking demonstration and discussion about healthy living is part of our ongoing “Of the People: Live from the White House” series with Discovery Education, giving middle and high school students unique access to the White House and Obama administration officials.

During yesterday’s event, students from across the country got a chance to walk through how to make Sunrise Tuscan Chicken, a healthy recipe from one of the winners of this year’s Kids’ State Dinner. While Sam and Maurice worked their way through the recipe, Maurice asked about Let’s Move!, how students can eat healthy using fresh ingredients, and what types of fruits and vegetables grow in the White House Kitchen Garden.
