Be a Champion for Your School
May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and President Obama has called on schools to make health and exercise part of a good education and for each of us to recommit to setting our children on the path to a bright future:
"I call on schools to make good health and exercise part of a good education. And alongside our friends and family, let each of us recommit to leading a healthy, active lifestyle, and setting our children on the path to a bright future."
Earlier this year, First Lady Michelle Obama announced a new collaboration designed to bring physical activity back to American schools. Let’s Move! Active Schools combines elements of existing programs and draws on new resources to provide customized support for schools to encourage physical activity. The program mobilizes physical education teachers, classroom teachers, administrators, staff, and even parents to be “school champions” for their community.
On Monday, May 6th, 2013 Discovery Education will host the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition and Olympic athlete Dominque Dawes for an informative webcast about how you can be a champion for your school by discovering ways to incorporate physical activity throughout the school day.
