The First Lady Teams Up with Major League Baseball
On behalf of Major League baseball players, I was honored today to stand with the First Lady at Camden Yards as we kicked off a new partnership with the Let's Move! campaign.
"It’s a lifestyle, not a recess break!"
Yesterday President Obama welcomed WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury to the White House. The team continued their commitment to service by hosting a kids basketball clinic as part of Let’s Move! to help young people live healthy and active lives. We caught up with Phoenix Mercury point guard Temeka Johnson following her visit, here's what she had to say:
The First Lady Answers Your Questions
Yesterday, Mrs. Obama answered your questions on the Let’s Move! initiative in a live video chat. Thousands of questions were submitted in advance and even more came in live.
New Apps Have Been Dreamed Up, Now You Choose the Best One
The moment of truth has come. In March, the First Lady challenged the talented and kid-savvy innovators across the country to build games and tools that inspire and empower kids and their parents to get active and eat healthy. Over the past four months, hundreds of students, developers, and entrepreneurs have dreamed up new ideas, teamed up with their peers in game jams across the country, and toiled to build something really special—something that will move the needle on childhood obesity.
Getting Fit with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition
The President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition is here to challenge you to join the healthy living movement - through the Department of Health and Human Services, First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move!, America's Great Outdoors, or one of the many programs across the nation and in your community.
National Park Junior Rangers on the Move
Beginning today, national parks will play a new role in First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign to combat childhood obesity. Kids can now become Let's Move Outside Junior Rangers by participating in an outdoor activity that gets their hearts pumping and bodies moving. The Junior Ranger program, available in more than 200 national parks, rewards young people with a certificate and patch or badge for completing a series of fun, educational activities related to each park's unique resources. Now, kids who participate in healthy recreation as part of this requirement will also receive a Let's Move Outside sticker.
Let's Move Cities and Towns
Earlier this year, when the First Lady announced the initiative to eliminate childhood obesity within a generation, we were aware that it was an ambitious goal. At the White House kickoff, she said, "This isn't the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved."
United We Serve: Let's Read. Let's Move.
All across America children are excitedly counting down the days to summer vacation; summer is a time each year when children and families can relax, play, and explore their creative interests together. We are, however, keenly aware that summer is also the time when the healthy habits and knowledge that our children developed during the school year are most likely to stall.
Let's Move Outside! at Red Rock Canyon
Yesterday, I was fortunate to join First Lady Michelle Obama, Representative Dina Titus and Senator Harry Reid at the launch of Let's Move Outside! in the spectacular Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area of Southern Nevada. The Canyon is just a short drive from the bustle of the Las Vegas Strip; this 197,000 acre property takes you to another time and with its solitude, wide open vistas and soaring red sandstone cliffs. Red Rock Canyon is one of only sixteen National Landscape Conservation Areas in the country, managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
Announcing "Chefs Move to Schools"
Since the groundbreaking of the White House Kitchen Garden more than a year ago, local students have spent time on the South Lawn of the White House planting seeds, harvesting vegetables and learning about health and nutrition along the way. Through the garden, the First Lady started a discussion on the role food plays in living a healthy life. The discussion grew into the Let's Move! campaign and like the garden - we just keep on growing.
