Yesterday, First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed students from across the country to harvest the White House Kitchen Garden and prepare a fresh, healthy meal with ingredients straight from the garden. The First Lady invited back the students who participated in this year’s planting so they could see the fruits – and vegetables – of their labor.

Garden to table happens here at the White House! At this year’s spring White House Kitchen Garden harvest, First Lady Michelle Obama was joined by students from across the country to help harvest a variety of vegetables and then prepare a tasty meal with the fresh ingredients from the garden. Mrs. Obama and the students were joined by Author, Daytime Host and Child Nutrition Advocate, Rachael Ray, who is also a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and Tastemade’s Frankie Celenza.

Today, at the Partnership for a Healthier America Summit, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the modernized Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods reflecting the latest science, the most relevant nutrition information, and a refreshed design. A central goal of Let’s Move! is to provide families with the information they need to make healthy choices, and after years of effort, we celebrate this progress.

This week, First Lady Michelle Obama joined U.S. Olympians, Paralympians, and Rio hopefuls at the U.S. Olympic Committee’s 100 Day Countdown event in Times Square to announce nationwide commitments to get nearly two million American children active as part of Let’s Move!.

Burke County Public Schools had the honor of hosting First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her American Garden Tour. Speaking on behalf of our district, we were both ecstatic and honored to share with Mrs. Obama just a small piece of what we do every day here in Burke County. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), there is no greater calling in life than to be able to teach children to live a healthier life, and it is so exciting to have a First Lady who shares the same passion as we do.

Last month, the First Family hosted over 35,000 people from across the country to participate in fun and games on the South Lawn during the White House Easter Egg Roll. The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition teamed up with the First Lady to highlight the progress of her Let’s Move! initiative and to encourage more kids and families to lead healthy, active lifestyles.

On the heels of the eighth annual planting of the White House Kitchen Garden, the First Lady set out to visit other gardens across the country. This year, as part of her American Garden Tour, Mrs. Obama is highlighting the impact and benefits of diverse gardens throughout the nation, including gardens in backyards and communities, at schools, and even in less conventional places like space.

As part of the annual Spring Garden Tours, the White House will open the South Lawn this weekend on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 for visitors to check out the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the Rose Garden, and Let’s Move!’s favorite, the White House Kitchen Garden.
