Let’s Hear It for Farm to School Salad Bars!

October is Farm to School month, a particularly exciting month for Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools.

Fresh vegetables like broccoli, carrots, beets, sweet peppers, and lettuce greens from local farms can be showcased on a school salad bar, and supporting activities, like taste tests and visits from the farmers that grew the produce, can inspire kids to try new things.  When schools develop relationships with local farmers, it opens up new ways to teach kids about where their food comes from and how to make healthy choices.

Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools has donated over 4,125 salad bars to schools across the country, many of which are offering locally grown products. From Richmond, VA to San Diego, CA school districts are working with local farmers to provide the best fresh fruits and vegetables to school salad bars.  Are you in a school district that needs a salad bar?  Any school participating in the National School Lunch Program can apply for a LMSB2S salad bar. Check out the information on how to apply for a salad bar and see additional informational resources on the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools Web site
