It's National School Lunch Week!

For so many kids, the school cafeteria is the only place where they can rely on a healthy and balanced meal. This week, nearly 70 years ago the National School Lunch Program was established to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent hunger for millions of children every school day. Every child deserves to have the proper nutrition to perform well throughout the day, both in and outside of the classroom.

To celebrate National School Lunch Week (October 13th-17th), the Let’s Move! blog, with the help of USDA, is ramping up our school lunch success stories written by school leaders from across the country. We will post a blog from a different state each day this week to highlight the great work of school lunch champions.

Additionally, October marks Farm to School Month, please take a moment to read USDA Secretary Vilsack’s earlier post to commemorate the month.

Check out USDA for additional National School Lunch Week resources.
