Pop, Lock, and Drop It! – Dance Your Way to Better Health This National Dance Day

Get out your tights, tap shoes, and tutus – all that jazz – National Dance Day is just a hop, skip, and a jump away!

On Saturday, The Kennedy Center, in association with Dizzy Feet Foundation and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will be celebrating National Dance Day with a whole host of free outdoor dance performances, dance lessons, and live music shows. Started in 2010, the National Dance Day movement is a grassroots campaign that encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun way to stay physically active.

This year, national celebrations are being held in both Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, CA. The Dizzy Feet Foundation has produced instructional dance videos available on their YouTube channel, and they are encouraging participants to learn these dance routines so they can join in during the day's performance. Practice with your friends and then come ready to show off your awesome moves!

Don’t live in Los Angeles or Washington D.C.? No worries! Celebrate your own way – get your community grooving with a flash mob or a dance-a-thon. Or just encourage your friends and family to dance around the living room. Dancing isn’t your thing? No problem! It’s just one way to stay active. Spend the day doing your favorite physical activity instead.

So shake those hips and point those toes, and dance your way to a healthier tomorrow!
