Sumner Elementary Receives a Surprise Package from the White House
Earlier this year, students from Sumner Elementary joined First Lady Michelle Obama to plant the White House Garden's fourth season of produce. When the garden plants were ready to be picked (and eaten!), students from Bancroft Elementary and Harriet Tubman Elementary joined Sam Kass, Assistant Chef and Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives, in the White House Garden to harvest some of that crop.
A day after the harvest, Sumner Elementary School received a special delivery from the White House: a package of peas, broccoli, onions, and lettuce arrived for the students. In the package was a thank you note from the young harvesters in Washington, a chef’s hat, and White House recipe for broccoli soup.
