First Ever Mid-Atlantic Let’s Move Summit
Sharing, systems, and strategies! These three “S” words kicked off the first ever Regional Mid-Atlantic Let’s Move Summit in Baltimore, MD, hosted by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture. With over 350 community leaders from a wide range of backgrounds, including community health workers, activists, nutritionists, educators, sports and exercise experts, and child care providers, participants were empowered to turn energy into action! Several hundred Let’s Move supporters gathered at the summit to build coalitions, share strategies and best practices to reduce childhood hunger and curb childhood obesity. Three tracks were offered, including Early Childhood, Healthy Schools, and Healthy Communities, allowing participants to choose the area that best aligned with their work and interests.
The summit was just the beginning. It was the launching point to reduce childhood hunger and obesity. Participants who attended the summit and those who couldn’t make it can continue the conversation and be a champion to end childhood obesity, by joining our Google Group discussion. The Google Group site is a one-stop access point for retrieving PowerPoint presentations, names of organizations and participants present at the summit, including a Strategy for Action worksheet. Please use this site to share information, create systems of building coalitions, develop strategies for action, and celebrate your passion and energy towards working together to reduce childhood obesity!
