California League of Cities Endorses the First Lady’s Call to Action
Last week, California took a huge step forward in support of the First Lady's Let's Move! campaign. A voice of 480 cities and towns, the California League of Cities voted as a general assembly at their annual conference to support unanimously the Let's Move Cities and Towns initiative. Now is the time for other cities and towns across the country to follow the example in California and join the battle to create healthy communities. Eliminating childhood obesity within a generation will be no easy task. But we know that change begins at the local level and that the leadership demonstrated last week is the direction in which we need to be heading. In order to change our communities, we need to continue to build partnerships and encourage change at both the local and national level. Region IX of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is committed to signing up as many cities as possible, and to partnering with key organizations so that we can make childhood obesity a thing of the past. It is time for every city and town in America to join this effort and sign up to be a Let's Move! City or Town!
