Reading a Scholastic book, or attending a Scholastic book fair are both rites of passage equal in importance to the first day you walked to school by yourself, or the first time dividing fractions finally made sense. A long-standing tradition within the book-savvy crowd is the Scholastic Kid Press Corps, a group of adolescents eager to be on the front lines of reporting well before they hit their teen years. One of these kids is Jonas Hosmer.

On May 25, the First Lady welcomed nearly 100 local students to the White House to kick off the South Lawn Series - events throughout the summer season to bring local children, sports leagues, community programs and coaches to the South Lawn to participate in sports, games and activities.

Mrs. Obama invited Mexico's First Lady Margarita Zavala to the New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland for a Let's Move! event, as part of the Administration's activities to welcome the President and First Lady of Mexico.

In my work with the Partnership for a Healthier America, I recognize the great task that we have taken on - to mobilize broad-based support for efforts to solve the childhood obesity challenge and facilitate commitments toward the First Lady's national target of solving childhood obesity within a generation, the goal of her Let's Move! campaign. Yesterday, we announced an agreement with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF) that takes an important first step toward this goal.

Since the groundbreaking of the White House Kitchen Garden more than a year ago, local students have spent time on the South Lawn of the White House planting seeds, harvesting vegetables and learning about health and nutrition along the way. Through the garden, the First Lady started a discussion on the role food plays in living a healthy life. The discussion grew into the Let's Move! campaign and like the garden - we just keep on growing.

Today, the Childhood Obesity Task Force is excited to release our action plan to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation.
