Peaches 'N Greens

Within a 2 mile radius of the Peaches 'n Greens location, there are 24 liquor stores and one grocery store. The streets are not safe for seniors or young people to walk or ride a bicycle even if there were easily accessible grocery stores. The solution? Take the food to the people and stock the liquor stores with fresh produce! The Peaches 'n Greens program includes a market, a mobile food delivery truck and a restaurant where they provide employment opportunities for those in the neighborhood, many of whom are ex-offenders. They provide summer programs for school children as well as after school programs during the school year. During the summer they directly provide food for 200 - 250 children per day through their summer day camp program. They are also very active in the USDA SNAP program and this summer will join the Summer Food Service Program. In one of the more innovative approaches to making healthy food accessible, Peaches 'n Greens has persuaded four of the local liquor stores to carry a limited stock of fresh produce.
